SUMMARY:High Sierra Cyclists' 2nd Annual RIDE OF SILENCE
DESCRIPTION:On May 4 in 2003\, Larry Schwartz was killed by a school bus mirror while riding his bicycle. In the following weeks\, Chris Phelan began organizing what he thought would be a one-time memorial for his good friend. Now\, 11 years later\, thousands of cyclists around the globe quietly take to the pavement on May 21st to pay tribute to those who have been injured or lost. Please join High Sierra Cyclists\, members of our community\, and our Ridgecrest Police Department escort on the third Wednesday of May as we silently ride by some of the sites of those who are no longer with us and remind ourselves and others of our rights and responsibilities as motorists and cyclists. Helmets are required\, as are lights for use during the procession and to accommodate the possibility of being out past sunset. This truly is a ride of SILENCE\, so we ask that there is absolutely no talking\, whispering\, or horseplay while en route. We plan to average 9 mph along our 8-mile route and intend to stay together as a group\, slowing and stopping as necessary. Please join our event (Ride of Silence) on our Facebook page (High Sierra Cyclists) for regular updates.
