DESCRIPTION:A special notice concerning this month's General Meeting:  \n\nDue to preparations\, at the Historic USO Building\, for the upcoming annual CLOTA-HSUMD  "Spook House\,"  the October General Meeting of the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert will be moved to the Maturango Museum\, 100 E. Las Flores Ave.\, Tuesday\, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.  This month's speaker will be highway historian Russ Connelly\, who will take guests on a fascinating tour of Highway 178 going back 100 years to the planning and building of this busy route.  He will share photos from the early days of the road\, the changes to the highway over the years\, and some little-known facts about one of the most challenging highway routes in California.
