SUMMARY:Planning Meeting for High Desert Motorsports History Poker Run
DESCRIPTION:The Indian Wells Valley boasts a rich history of motorsports. Legendary shops and garages have built "sweet rides" of all types\, and daring individuals or teams have raced them across the state and the country. The valley's many motorcycle\, truck and car clubs have celebrated this culture and donated much of their time and efforts to the community. In celebration of this hallowed racing heritage\, the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert invites all motorsports enthusiasts to help plan a uniquely themed "poker run" event. \n\n \n\n\n\n\nFor readers unfamiliar with that term\, a "poker run" is an organized event where participants driving motorcycles\, trucks\, or cars must visit must visit five to seven checkpoints\, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the race.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThe initial plan is to start the run at the Historic USO building\, with stations set up at historical locations in and around the area where clubs and individuals who are a part of local racing history will be onsite to tell the stories and show their machines that competed there. The HSUMD needs help\, though\, to identify these historical sites\, and are open to suggestions for this event.\n\n \n\nIndividuals or families that are part of the valley's motorsports history\, or members of the following clubs: Dust Devils\, Viewfinders\, Dead Owls. Gear Grinders\, High Desert Road Runners\, Harley Owner's Group (HOG)\, Dirt Diggers\, Goin' So Lo\, Checkers\, Tin Benders\, etc.\, are invited to join the HSUMD for a planning meeting to be held at the Historic USO Building at 230 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. on Monday\, August 11th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Contact Matt Zubia at 760-793-2107 or via e-mail at hsumd.org@gmail.com for more information.
