The Democratic Club of the High Desert is pleased to invite all thoughtful voters to attend and participate in our upcoming nonpartisan, California Propositions Workshop this Saturday, October 20th. Event: Ballot Propositions Workshop Voters will decide on 11 statewide ballot initiatives including proposals to create new bonds, change the state’s rent control policy, repeal the 2017 tax increase on gasoline and mandate that eggs are laid by chickens who roam cage-free. If you are confused about any of these measures you are not alone. Paid ads both supporting and opposing the propositions have been criticized as borderline fraudulent. Following lunch at the Homestead Family Restaurant, the Democratic Club is facilitating an informal workshop with assistance from Lois Watson from the Bakersfield League of Women Voters. Participants will be invited to break up into small groups assigned to discuss 3 or 4 of the ballot propositions. Following the group discussions, all present will reconvene in order to hear the selected propositions’ pros and cons from each group, followed by questions and answers. Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no admission fee; buying your own lunch or a drink is optional.
