Since 1955, Groom Lake, Nevada, best known to the public as Dreamland or area 51, has served as a proving ground for advanced aircraft and weapons systems. Throughout the cold war, workers at this secret site toiled in anonymity to test the u-2, A-12, (first of the triple-sonic Blackbirds), Soviet fighters, stealth aircraft, and unmanned vehicles. Now, through unclassified and declassified material, it is possible to cut through the fog of rumor and speculation and learn the true story of this unique national asset.
