HSUMD Meeting- Gold Mining Topic
The presentation will start with a history of mining and its importance to the development of the West. Of course, you can’t tell a story like that without including colorful tales like that of Chester A. Pray, who committed suicide three weeks after discovering the richest mine ever in Death Valley. At least, that’s what the inquest that his partners paid for concluded!
After that, James will talk about the present and future of mining discussing what is happening in mining in the US today, and revealing the latest technology to extract and recover gold. He will answer the question is it still possible to “strike it rich” as a weekend prospector? And finally, what is the future of the US Mining Industry?
James D. Holgersen has worked as an engineer and scientist in the field of precious metal extraction and recovery for the past twelve years including two years as the lead investigator for a joint R&D project on platinum metals at the South Dakota School of Mines and holds a patent in the recovery of platinum group metals from catalytic converters. Prior to then, he worked as an electrical engineer and project manager at the Naval Air Warfare Center for sixteen years.
The Society meets on the third Tuesday of most months. Meetings are free and all are welcome to attend. For more information on this or future meetings, call the HSUMD at 760-375-8456.Date and Time
