About Us

The Wood Family began Desert Dog Pet Store in December 2012 - they began with only self-serve wash stations with minimal supplies.
Hailing from San Diego, CA, the Wood Family was briefly stationed at NAWS China Lake around 2003-2006, it was during this time Mr. and Mrs. Wood chose Ridgecrest as their future retirement city.
What's a retired couple to do with free time and motivation? Build their own business, of course!
The Wood Family found inspiration for their own self-serve wash tubs while their daughter was working in San Diego for Petco Unleashed locations. Ridgecrest needed one too! So began their journey into the companion pet industry, and what a whirlwind it has been!

In 2014, their daughter, Jennifer, joined them in the high desert and began revamping the selection of natural and healthy treats and diets. Jennifer is working towards becoming a Certified Pet Nutritionist, and found her passion working within the pet industry. With a background in sales and dog training with Petco, she helped her family grow the business in retail.

In 2020, during COVID statewide and nationwide shutdowns, Desert Dog Pet Store hit a crossroads. Having the store closed played heavily on the family, Mr. and Mrs. Wood chose to fully retire and pull themselves from the store to pursue their Jeeping adventures. Jennifer now owns Desert Dog Pet Store and has added online shopping with free pick-up as well as brought a full-time groomer onsite.
