District 1 Supervisor Biography

Phillip PetersPhillip Peters has always felt a call to work for the betterment of his community.

Peters was born and raised in Bakersfield where he attended Garces Memorial High School. Motivated by a desire to fight back against government overreach and to preserve the unique qualities that make Kern County great, he has prioritized community service and has been active in a number of boards, committees, and nonprofits. These include serving as a member of the Workforce Investment Board, the Kern County Oil Contractors Association, and the Association of Builders and Contractors Government Affairs Board.

Phillip believes that government works best when focused on creating opportunity. Having worked in both oil and agriculture, Peters has experienced first-hand the challenges these industries face, as well as the many benefits they bring to Kern County. As co-owner of Williams Cleaning Systems, he knows well the burdensome regulations imposed on business owners by the State of California and has consistently used his voice to fight back against policies that restrain our county’s growth. Phillip has written multiple published articles on topics ranging from water and oil issues, to labor and education.

In 2014 Phillip Peters was elected to the Kern High School District Board, where he focused on improving access to career technical education, providing more choices in children’s education, empowering local educators, and ensuring accountability
