The Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert will lead a tour to
Saturday Feb 8, 2014
HSUMD Field Trip to Ophir City
the site of Ophir City on February 8 at 9:00. Nicholas Clapp gave a
presentation to the Society in October 2013 on the lost city of Ophir
in the local El Paso Mountains. We’ll follow his information to the
site, starting cross-country on BLM open routes and visit some local
homesteads and other historical sites on the way to the location of
Ophir. Weather can be changeable, so watch the weather reports and
plan accordingly. Bring water, lunch, walking or hiking shoes,
layered clothing, camera and a hat. Four-wheel drive shouldn’t be
required, but some clearance and sturdy tires will help. The roads
are in pretty good shape, but there are some rocks and soft sand.
This will be a leisurely trip and total mileage should be no more
than 30-40 miles. We’ll meet at the USO Building (230 W. Ridgecrest
Blvd.) at 8:45 and leave by 9:00 on Saturday, February 8. For more
information, call Jim Kenney at 760-371-2458.Date and Time
